About half a year ago we were contacted to help with a total remodel of a master bedroom and bathroom suite. And when we say total, we mean complete renovation… down to the studs and starting from scratch.
Our client, Brenda, mentioned that she wanted it to be in cooler color tones ranging from sea foam greens to gray blues and to try to give it a “spa” feeling. Also on her wish list was a makeup area, an alternative option for flooring in her master closet (for which we chose bamboo flooring in a blue/gray color tone), plenty of lighting, as well as optimizing space for a built-in shower and whirl tub, not to mention new furniture, custom bedding, and draperies for the bedroom.
Our first great find was the color for our bathroom cabinetry, which is also reflected in the bedroom in various elements like the custom upholstered headboard, velvet pillows, and the embroidered design in the drapery fabric. The goal with the bedding was to give it a clean and crisp look but also be washable since they are dog owners. (Yes, we have washable velvet and silk bedding.) We chose grasscloth wallpaper from York to create an accent wall behind the bed and to give the room some more texture. The light fixture from Currey & Company above the bed reflects a more transitional style and creates an interesting light effect on ceiling and walls. For color contrast, we flanked the bed with two large, black nightstands from Noir, which give our homeowners plenty of drawer space. Our flooring choice for the master bedroom and bathroom changes from a plush carpet to tile; however, the wall color between the two rooms remains the same in order to pull the master suite together. An oversized, antique mirror from John Richards was placed against a bedroom wall, and placing various accessories and family pictures on the walls completed our job.
We have to admit this was a very fun project for us, and we want to thank our clients Brenda and John for allowing us free reign and letting us help them make their master suite their own special retreat.
Below are some before and after pictures of this project.
